Most of us have an idea
of what corruption is. But we don’t necessarily share the same idea. Corruption
is represents a critical business issue for corporation and a significant
social issue around the world. Corruption cost and estimated trillions of
dollar globally in bribes, inflated project budgets and legal and other
expenses. It also undermines public trust and steals resources from developing
countries that badly need the funds to address poverty and other social
problems.
Given the extent to
which corruptions affect the society and its immediate environment, from my
point of the view is that the best way to fight corruption is by using stakeholder’s
model. A stakeholder is any person, group, organization or entity that affects
or can be affected by a particular organization’s actions. In Malaysia example, the
prevalence of corruption has been acknowledged by the government and slowly
become a serious issues.
The various steps have been taken by the government to prevent and eradicate it. Anti-corruption legislation has been enacted, anti-corruption agency (MACC) established and other administrative mechanisms like the public complaints bureau set up to monitor and ensure integrity and protect the rights of the citizens. Despite these measures however the incidence of corruption has escalated. The spread of corruption incompetence, malpractice, abuse of power, fraud and other unethical behavior as well as the lack of work motivation, have been attributed the decline in integrity among individuals organization and society at large. The key cause of corruption in Malaysia is lack of transparency, poor disclosure by the government of contracts and dealings, discretion, red tape, lack of accountability and political interference.

Now, what steps can we
suggest that would discourage corrupt practices?
My role in tackling
corruption’ issue I should begin within myself. Therefore I believe that to
eradicate corruption, I must first try and adopt strict principles where there
shall be no accepting any form of corruption from any one whatsoever. And I
will take steps to denounce any corruption practice in my area to the authority.
In addition I’ll advise my community about negative impact of corruption and
its damages of economic growth and how individuals should insist on
transparency and refuse the corruption in all its form.
Organizations on their part; should have a steady,
clear and concise platform to present their accounts and asset management
documents so that shareholders are not bombarded with complex terms thereby
rendering their opinion useless.
Organizations must
design rules, policies and procedures that totally imbibe a culture of honesty
and trust among itself and its stakeholders. By inhibiting anti-social
activities, such as corruptions, frauds the company is paving the way forward
towards building a harmonious society.
Society’s role: The
society as a whole must promote family-centric values as often as it can. All
political and social beliefs that hold the nuclear family to be the essential
fabric of ethical and moral unit of society must be propagated extensively. In
addition, The society should agree on harsher punishments for those involved in
corruption and try as much as they can
to provide public awareness about corruption and corrupted people among the
society because it damage dramatically
reducing the chances of future occurrences.
According to Islamic principles Muslim should
collaborate together in fighting all evil deed which harm the society because
it is Amanah, therefor all Malaysians should take care of public interest, and taking it without any right is a corruption should be
punished
Allah
subhanaho wataalah said the Quran
27. O You who believe!
betray not Allâh and his Messenger, nor betray knowingly Your Amânât (things
entrusted to you, and All the duties which Allâh has ordained for you). 8/27
“Collaborate
In AlBirr and AtTaqwa (virtue,
righteousness and piety); but do not help one another In sin and transgression.
and fear Allah. Verily, Allah is Severe In punishment.” 5/2
From hadith:
Narrated by Abu
Hurayrah - may Allah
Almighty with him said:the Prophet peace
beupon him said: (“God's curse on the briber and the bribed”) reported by 5 and
Tirmidhi said is good.
All these version and
Ahadith deemed the corruption as something which is against public interest and
the corrupted people should be punished in this world and hereafter.
On the other hand Islam
promotes cooperation among the society in fighting unethical behavior in the
society.
In
conclusion, corruption is a bad evil in the society by corruption people will
lose their faith and dignity and it limit people from utilizing their ability
therefore fighting corruption is a liability for all regardless
of their backgrounds by eliminating discretion and try to be more transparent.
The government should restrict accountability and eliminate political
interference.
